Dear Knappa Community,
I have a couple of late in the week updates and reminders.
Student Art Highlighted. Several of our high school art students are participating in a county wide art show in downtown Astoria! The show opens this Saturday, May 14, and is included in Astoria's monthly art walk, and most of the artwork is for sale.
If you find yourself downtown this weekend or want to check out their art (it will be up for a couple of weeks), the show is at the Astoria Visual Arts Gallery, 1000 Duane Street. That's on the corner of 10th and Duane across from the Public Library. Thanks to Miki Souza for inspiring our young artists.
Superintendent Chat / Charla con Superintendente. Monday, we will be hosting the Chat with the Superintendent at 6pm. You may attend in the KHS Library or virtually. We will be discussing our Student Investment Act plan and eliciting community feedback on the plan. This year, we have used those resources to:
• Provide K-12 music instruction
• Provide kindergarten readiness support
• Provide behavior support at the elementary school, and
• Provide extended learning opportunities (after school program and summer school)
Some things we would like perspective on include use for high school CTE programs and class size mitigation.
Music Program. Also, of note is a wonderful article in today’s Astorian highlighting our music program. We are very proud of our music students and they deserve to be honored. Take a look.
KVA Enrollment for 2022-23. We are planning for next year and need to know whether you have interest in Knappa Virtual Academy in September. Please visit https://forms.gle/c6YvedvPedZzbzaP9 to sign up so we can plan accordingly.
Vote. Tuesday is election day. Please remember to turn in your ballots.
All the best,
Bill Fritz, Ph.D.
