I have a couple of late in the week updates and reminders. Several of our high school art students are participating in a county wide art show in downtown Astoria! Monday, we will be hosting the Chat with the Superintendent at 6pm. You may attend in the KHS Library or virtually. We will be discussing our Student Investment Act plan and eliciting community feedback on the plan.
It is nice to finally see some spring weather, although I hear it will be short lived and back to rain shortly.
This week in Knappa Schools, we have a lot going on. Last Saturday was the high school prom. It is so
nice to be back to a “normal” indoor event!
We have many exciting spring happenings going on right now. After a strong win yesterday against St. Paul, the softball team is 11-3 (8-3 in League), and is ranked #6 in the state. Baseball continues on their win streak and is now 15-0 in league play. They are now ranked #3 in the state. Over the weekend, our music department also competed in Gladstone. This was their first competition in more than a decade, their first since the reboot of our program last year.
We have a busy couple of days at the end of this week. Thursday, April 28 is Kindergarten Registration. April 29 is the Foundation Event. Just down the street in Gladstone, our beginning band, high school choir, and high school percussion ensemble will be competing on Saturday the 30th.
Thank you to everybody who participated in the recent civility dialogues. Last Wednesday, the School Board reviewed a draft policy that was developed as a result of the process, which is designed to honor all of the feedback received. This Thursday is Kindergarten Registration. Preschool enrollment for 2022-23 is beginning. The School Board took action on Wednesday for the Knappa School District to purchase its first propane powered school bus. This Friday is the Knappa Schools Foundation event at the Liberty Theatre. Tickets are available on their website.
Tonight is the final opportunity to participate in our civility conversations with Dr. Plano. He has chatted with eight stakeholder groups over the last two days as we work toward a community influenced operational definition of how we work together civilly to discuss and improve our schools. Please join us at 5pm tonight, either online or in the Hilda Lahti Elementary School Library.
Knappa Wrestler Corbin Roe took 6th at the State Wrestling tournament over this last weekend! Congratulations to the Knappa Wrestlers and coaches for a great season. Toward the end of this week, the Boys’ Basketball Team will be playing in Pendleton on the path to a State Championship.
On Friday, we concluded the survey regarding opinions related to the district mask approach on March 31. There were 66 employee responses, 186 parent/guardian responses, 71 student responses, and 15 responses from others (i.e. grandparents, homeschool families, community members, etc.). Here are the results:
Welcome to February! This month will entail several things…the start of a new semester, Black History Month, a state basketball championship (hopefully), President’s Day, and the sale of our school bonds.
We are interested in community feedback regarding our website design. If you would like to be a part of a focus group to help us better understand how community members use the website, key pieces of information you want, and where “logic” says items should be, please let us know by going to this site: https://forms.gle/KSgKXc4DFpVZWCeBA.
